Serial car battery thief nabbed in Sentul

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 27-year-old man believed to be involved in a string of car battery thefts in the Dato Senu area of Sentul, Kuala Lumpur.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said 17 police reports had been lodged since October.

He said the suspect, an Indonesian national who worked as a restaurant assistant in Dato Senu, was picked up on Friday (Feb 6) in a joint operation by the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department and district CID.

"Following investigations (of the 17 reports), we arrested a foreign national believed to be actively involved in these thefts," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 11).

Investigations found that the batteries were then resold for between RM30 and RM50 each.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and the suspect has been remanded until Feb 21 to assist in investigations, ACP Ahmad Sukarno said.

He urged anyone with information on criminal activities to contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or go to the nearest police station.
