Kedah JPJ impounds luxury car with expired road tax, driven by foreigner with no licence

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized a luxury vehicle that was being driven in a suspicious manner near a village here.

It said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 11) that the driver was also detained during a special enforcement operation, Ops Luxury, conducted by its enforcement division.

It said JPJ officers stopped the vehicle for inspection and the driver was initially evasive when asked to produce his identification documents and driving licence.

"Subsequent inspection found that the driver did not possess a valid driving licence and is a Cambodian national," it added.

Several offences were also detected under the Road Transport Act 1987, including an expired Motor Vehicle Licence (road tax) and insurance coverage that lapsed on April 2 last year.

Summonses were issued for the offences, and the vehicle was impounded and taken to the state JPJ seizure depot for further investigation.

JPJ stressed that it would not compromise with any vehicle owner who violates the law, regardless of the type or value of the vehicle.

"Firm enforcement action will be taken against anyone in breach of road transport laws," it added.
