PETALING JAYA: A furniture factory in Sea Park here was razed, sending thick smoke over the area and attracting the attention of residents in nearby areas.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said no casualties were reported.

He said the department received a call at 1.22pm and dispatched a fire engine from the Damansara station, which arrived at the scene six minutes later.

“The fire happened at a furniture factory measuring an estimated 30sqm by 15sqm,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said 34 firefighters were involved in the operation, with help from the Petaling Jaya, Jalan Penchala, Puchong and Taman Tun Dr Ismail fire stations.

“The firefighting operation also involves four Fire Rescue Tender vehicles, a water tanker, an Aerial Ladder Platform vehicle and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services,” he added.

A Bernama observation found that the thick black smoke could be seen from afar, while the public was prevented from getting too close to two nearby petrol stations.
