SEPANG: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived for his official two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Feb 7).

He arrived at 5.12pm at Kompleks Bunga Raya in KLIA.

He was received by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the tarmac.

Also there to welcome him was Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R Ramanan.

Upon arrival, Modi inspected a guard of honour mounted by two officers and 26 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, led by Capt Mhd Afiq Aiman Mohd Zulkifli.

Modi was welcomed, and Malaysian and Indian flags were waved by 100 students from Kolej Tunku Kurshiah, Sekolah Menengah Sains Banting, and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.

A welcome reception was also held, which began with the blowing of the tetuang, followed by a madani drumming performance featuring 12 musicians playing traditional instruments from various ethnic communities, including the jidor, Chinese drum and dhol, symbolising harmony and Malaysia's cultural diversity.

There was also a performance by 40 dancers from Artistana Istana Budaya in multiracial-themed costumes.

Modi's last visit was in November 2015 but he made a brief stopover in Malaysia in May 2018.

Modi said the visit would boost the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations and enhance cooperation across sectors.

Both Modi and Anwar are also expected to attend a reception event at The Mines Convention Centre on Saturday evening.

Wisma Putra said both leaders are expected to explore further collaboration between Malaysia and India in trade and investment; defence and security; labour; tourism; connectivity; agriculture; and education.

They will also witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding in several fields.

In 2025, total trade between Malaysia and India reached RM79.49bil. Malaysia's total exports to India amounted to RM52.30bil and total imports amounted to RM27.19bil.
