KOTA KINABALU: A suspected drug dealer risks facing the death or life sentence after he was arrested from Penampang during a raid on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old who was believed involved in distributing ecstasy powder to clubs, was nabbed with almost half a kilogram of drugs at around 11pm, in a parked vehicle outside a condominium unit.
Sabah Narcotics Crime Chief Asst Comm Alhusin Halil said they found 15 plastic packets filled with what they believed were powdered ecstasy weighing around 498.01grams.
“We also found six other packets filled with what we think is ketamine weighing around 15.10grams and 65 cigarettes which might also contain drugs,” he said when contacted.
He said the total seizure, valued at more than RM14,450, was brought back to the station along with the suspect for further investigation.
The suspect had admitted to getting the stocks from an individual and is believed to have been distributing and selling these items to clubs and entertainment outlets since October last year, said ACP Alhusin.
“Our next focus is to trace the network of drug dealings, its sources and mastermind, among other things,” he said, adding that the case will be probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Offenders could be sentenced to death or life imprisonment upon conviction under this Section.
ACP Alhusin said the suspect is under remand and did not discount the possibility of more arrests after this.
