PETALING JAYA: In conjunction with this year’s Thaipusam festivities at Batu Caves, the United States embassy in Kuala Lumpur showcased its love of Malaysia’s cultural heritage by joining Hindu devotees in fulfilling their vows.

In a Facebook post Wednesday (Feb 4), the embassy revealed that US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan had joined the climb up Batu Cave’s 272 steps alongside Hindu devotees as part of a cultural exchange.

In the post, the embassy shared photos of Kagan participating in the festival by carrying a milk offering up the stairs and posing with crowds of Hindu devotees.

“272 steps + a heart full of respect = an unforgettable Friday (Jan 30) night at Batu Caves!

“Ambassador Kagan was honoured to be amidst the sights and sounds of Thaipusam, joining the sea of devotees to carry a milk offering (paal kudam) up the stairs.

“Thank you to the Malaysian community for welcoming us into this vibrant, spiritual, and colorful celebration. Truly a testament to Malaysia’s rich history of devotion and tradition,” it said in the Facebook post.
