Penang smart parking glitch leads to council voiding fines for Feb 3

GEORGE TOWN: All parking fines issued by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) on Tuesday (Feb 3) will be voided following a temporary disruption to the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) system.

In a statement, MBPP said the technical disruption on Feb 3 prevented the public from logging into the PSP application and making parking payments.

"As an immediate measure, MBPP halted the issuance of compounds for offences involving unpaid parking.

"However, some members of the public were still issued compounds during the disruption.

"Therefore, all compounds issued on Feb 3 for the offence of parking without payment will be cancelled," it said.

The council however said compounds for other offences not related to parking payments would remain in force.

It then clarified that the PSP system was fully restored at about 4pm on Feb 3, as announced by system operator HeiTech Padu Bhd via its social media platforms.
