Negri govt to allow female Muslim staff to leave work at 2pm on Fridays during Ramadan

SEREMBAN: Muslim female state employees will be allowed to go home at 2pm on Fridays during Ramadan, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The Mentri Besar said these employees will work through their lunch break to be eligible.

"We will have flexible working hours for these female employees so that they can work through lunch.

"They can then leave for home at 2pm," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri.

He said 2,496 employees, including those in local councils and statutory bodies, will benefit from the flexi-hour schedule.

Separately, Aminuddin said the state will need an additional 3,600 teachers and 450 classrooms next year when children aged six and seven enrol for Year One at government schools.

He said based on statistics provided by the state education department, 16,346 seven-year-olds and another 16,018 aged six will enrol for Year One in 2027.

"Since the enrolment for Year One will double to 32,364, we hope the Education Ministry will be able to provide the additional teachers for Negri Sembilan," he said.

Aminuddin said the authorities would have to start looking at ways to handle the increase in the number of pupils, which includes having two sessions at schools.

"Some schools in urban areas like Seremban and parts of Port Dickson may have to be ready with the increase in student population.

"We hope the process will be smooth so the learning and teaching process is not affected," he said.

On another matter, Aminuddin said the 57,000 federal civil servants in the state will receive a special payment of RM300 before Hari Raya.

"The exercise will cost the state government some RM17mil," he added.
