KUALA LUMPUR: The police are investigating an attempted robbery involving a 25-year-old woman at a petrol station in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Hoo Chan Hook said the incident occurred at about 7.10am on Sunday (Feb 1) when the victim and her friend had stopped by the side of the road.
"A man on a motorcycle allegedly approached the vehicle and attempted to open the car door to snatch the victim’s bag, which had been left inside the car.
“The victim and her friend managed to prevent the suspect from opening the door, resulting in a brief struggle. During the altercation, the victim was punched on her arm and head,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 4).
The suspect later fled the scene on the motorcycle without managing to take any valuables or cash, he said.
"We received a report on the incident at about 8.30am the same day. The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery.
ACP Hoo said investigations were ongoing as the motorcycle used by the suspect was believed to be bearing a fake registration number.
“A photofit sketch of the suspect has been prepared. Police are actively tracking him down and an arrest will be made as soon as possible,” he added.
