Official documents dumped at beach in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Files and confidential documents, including government tender applications and official letters, have been found strewn by the beach in Putatan, kicking up a storm among locals.

Residents who found the “garbage” questioned such irresponsible disposal methods, even asking if it was common practice among government departments.

They said as the documents contained personal and private information, there should be better ways of disposing them.

It is believed that these discarded documents involved the Putatan district office, Putatan district council and Putatan Works Department.

Putatan MP Datuk Shahelmey Yahya (pic) said he contacted Putatan district officer Masawi Salleh on Sunday after learning of the matter from social media.

“Whoever is responsible for it does not seem to know the procedure of handling official documents.

“The matter should not be taken lightly and a thorough investigation must be carried out,” he said.

Masawi said the documents were being retrieved from the site, and said an internal investigation will be held.

He said a review would be conducted for an update on disposal procedures of important documents.
