National Climate Change Bill to be tabled for first reading in March

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Climate Change Bill is expected to be tabled for first reading in the current Dewan Rakyat meeting in March, says the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability ministry.

"The Bill is currently under review by the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) to ensure it is aligned with the government's intentions, including the policy determinations approved by the Cabinet on June 11, 2025," the ministry said in a parliamentary written reply dated Jan 29.

Subsequently, the ministry intends to table a Cabinet memorandum in February 2026 to obtain approval for the Bill to be presented to Parliament for its First Reading during the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the Fifteenth Parliament in March 2026," it added.

The ministry was responding to a question by Wong Chen (PH-Subang) on the latest developments and the proposed timeline for the drafting of the Climate Change Bill.
