PUTRAJAYA: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) saved nearly RM6.58bil worth of property last year, reflecting the effectiveness of its operations and response capabilities, says director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad.
The achievement was highlighted in his annual address here on Friday (Jan 30), delivered in conjunction with the department’s annual parade.
"This is a very encouraging achievement," he said.
Nor Hisham said the figure demonstrated the importance of efficient operational management, strong coordination at all levels, and timely response in preventing incidents from escalating into major losses.

He said the department recorded a 67.5% response rate within 10 minutes last year, with the national average response time reduced to 8min 45sec, contributing to the minimisation of damage during emergencies.
Nor Hisham added that the department was on track to achieve its long-term target of at least 70% response time within 10 minutes nationwide by 2030, as outlined in its strategic planning.
He also attributed the achievement to the commitment and dedication of officers and personnel at the state, zone and station levels, saying their professionalism and teamwork were key to the department’s operational success.
"Our achievements are not a ticket for us to remain in our comfort zone. Instead, they should motivate us to continue raising our standards," he said.
Nor Hisham said the department would continue strengthening its operational efficiency and response capabilities to ensure public safety and protect property nationwide.
