IPOH: Plans are underway to transform Gua Tempurung into a world-class tourism attraction.
Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak said its commercial and property development arm, Majuperak Holdings Bhd, has been tasked with developing the 32.2ha site in stages.
He said the development would introduce facilities such as glamping, extreme sports and outdoor activities, while ensuring the cave’s geological features are preserved.
“Gua Tempurung has strong potential in ecotourism and adventure tourism, making it one of the best tourism destinations in the country.
“Our target is to attract between 10,000 and 25,000 visitors a month,” he said, adding that the development would be carried out in three phases over six years.
Redza Rafiq said safety upgrades within the cave would also be prioritised, alongside the introduction of rock climbing, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) tracks, extreme sports and glamping facilities.
“The development is in line with our strategy to create high-value experiences from our iconic destinations,” he added.
He was speaking after the signing of a 21-year concession agreement between Majuperak Holdings chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij Muhammad Yasin and Kampar District Council president Ahmad Suqairi Alias at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building on Wednesday (Jan 28).
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
Muhammad Yazurin said Majuperak Holdings would first prepare a comprehensive masterplan for the site.
“The first phase will focus on safety assessments within the cave and the development of activities outside the cave area,” he said.
He added that a joint committee would be formed with the district council to oversee the development.
“The second phase will involve more extensive physical development, while the third phase aims to position Gua Tempurung as a world-class attraction,” he said, adding that work would begin immediately.
