10 detainees hurt as police truck overturns in Rembau


REMBAU: Ten detainees suffered injuries after a police truck taking them to court here lost control and turned on its side at a junction along Jalan Seremban-Tampin on Wednesday morning (Jan 28).

District deputy police chief DSP Azmi Ali said the 10 were being taken from the Seremban prison to the magistrate's court here to have their detention warrants extended when the incident happened around 9.40am.

Escorting the detainees in the Black Maria were five policemen.

"When the police truck was about to turn right at the traffic light junction, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip on its side.

"Four injured detainees were taken to Rembau Hospital in an ambulance escorted by two policemen," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

DSP Azmi said six others who sustained light injuries were taken in another vehicle, escorted by two cops as well as officers in a police car.

He said policemen from the district station were immediately sent to the scene to assist the injured.
