Customs Dept records highest revenue at RM76bil since Covid-19

PUTRAJAYA: Some RM76.18bil was collected by the Customs Department last year, its highest collection since the Covid-19 pandemic, says its director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin.

Anis Rizana said this exceeded the initial target of RM67.25bil set by the Finance Ministry as well as the Fiscal Outlook and Federal Government’s Revenue Estimates.

The figures, she said, made up an additional RM8.93bil, putting the final collection figure at 113% when compared to the initial target.

“This reflects the department’s commitment towards consistency and discipline.

“Enforcement also remains a main thrust in the department’s role towards protecting society and the country,” she said in her speech at the 44th World Customs Day celebration here on Monday (Jan 26).

She added that the department foiled some 7,097 smuggling attempts last year with the confiscated items and tax evasion value exceeding RM1.88bil.

“The focus has also been placed on outcome based enforcement to ensure the impact is substantial,” she said.
