Man under probe for lodging false police report

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who claimed he had been robbed was found to have lodged a false police report.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said when contacted that the 38-year-old man originally told police that a bag containing cash and his employer's belongings had been stolen by two men along Jalan Tanjong 1 on Monday (Jan 19).

"Investigations found that the report made by the complainant claiming that he had been robbed, and that personal items and cash amounting to RM5,000 belonging to his employer were taken, was untrue and false.

"The motive behind the false report was to avoid paying back his employer the money.

"As of now no arrests have been made. The case is still under investigation under Section 182 of the Penal Code," he said on Friday (Jan 23).

Section 182 covers giving false information to a public servant.
