KLANG: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized about RM2mil in various enforcement actions nationwide since the start of the year.

At a press conference at Port Klang here, director-general Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain (pic) said the agency recorded seizures totalling RM2.04mil between Jan 1 and Wednesday (Jan 21) at land, sea and air entry points under its jurisdiction.

Of the total, about RM305,880 involved narcotics, he said, adding that there were 16 narcotics cases at air entry points, all involving Kota Kinabalu.

Asked about the most common locations used for smuggling contraband, Mohd Shuhaily said it was still too early to draw conclusions based on empirical data.

“Port Klang is the largest entry point in the country for imports and exports, and we cannot run away from that fact.

“However, I am not comfortable at this stage to say that it is the main point for smuggling,” he said.
