KUALA LUMPUR: Express bus travellers between here and Singapore will be able to use the Lalaport Transport Hub located at Level LG1, Mitsui Shopping Park Lalaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC), here.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the hub integrates public transportation with leisure bus services in the city centre in a safer and more organised manner.
“Diverting the buses into the Lalaport Transport Hub facilitates travellers as it comes with bus bays, waiting lounge, ticket machine and travel time display screen,” he told reporters during a visit to the hub on Wednesday (Jan 21).
He said express buses previously made stops at Corus Hotel and Berjaya Times Square, which were unsuitable locations and worsened the heavy traffic there. This practice was stopped by enforcement by the Road and Transport Department (JPJ) against errant express bus operators.
Currently, Loke said the Lalaport hub is off limits to bus operators until the licensing process for operations and use, as well as the facilities, is completed.
“I have given feedback that further improvements to the hub must include better signage, additional display screens, and a bigger waiting lounge. Clear direction is needed for those walking from the Hang Tuah LRT station to the hub.
Loke added that IOI City Mall Putrajaya, Sunway Pyramid and One Utama shopping malls were being considered as express bus hubs for better integration.
“In Japan, many terminals are integrated with the malls, so this is something we can expand on in Malaysia,” he said.
Loke stressed that a well-integrated bus terminal ensures that public transport services operate safely, efficiently and comfortably, while supporting the sustainable mobility agenda and tourism growth.
The Lalaport Transport Hub is operated by Asia Success Resources Sdn Bhd, the company that also operates the terminal at the KLIA Terminal 2 Transport Centre.
Among the main facilities provided at the hub are a Centralised Ticketing System (CTS), 11 bus bays (6 departure bays and 5 arrival bays), and access to interchange facilities for LRT and Monorail services.
Additionally, there is also a Bus On Demand (BOD) service connecting Lalaport with the Bukit Bintang and Mont Kiara areas.
Currently, operations at the Lalaport Transport Hub involve sightseeing buses and BOD services, in line with the development concept and current needs of the area.
It focuses on bus routes from Singapore to the Klang Valley without competing with existing terminals such as the South Integrated Terminal (TBS) and the Gombak Integrated Terminal (TBG).
