KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) has been hospitalised since Jan 19 and will be on medical leave for a week, the Dewan Rakyat was informed.

According to Dr Wee, he is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital due to a lung infection.

“I was admitted on Jan 19 and am now receiving close monitoring and treatment, which is estimated to last about a week,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Jan 21)

Dr Wee said he has informed Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul regarding his absence.

“At the same time, I would like to apologise for being unable to fulfil invitations to programmes that were scheduled earlier,” he said.

During Question Time, Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor said the Dewan Rakyat was informed that the MCA President’s parliamentary question, which was the third on the list, would not proceed due to his condition.

“He was not able to be present here. He has been admitted to the hospital for one week since Jan 19.

“As the Ayer Hitam MP is not here, his question cannot proceed,” said Ramli in Parliament on Wednesday.

Dr Wee’s question was to ask the Transport Ministry to state the impact on supply chains, logistics and the cost of living due to the enforcement of overloaded lorries by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) since last October.

The current Parliament meeting will take place from Jan 19 to March 3.
