Female student killed in three-vehicle crash in Pahang

KUANTAN: A female student was killed after being thrown out of her vehicle in a three-vehicle collision at KM19.4 of the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU), heading to Raub, at about 7.20 pm on Sunday (Jan 18)

Bentong police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the accident, which occurred during rainy conditions, involved a hatchback, a luxury van and a pickup.

Initial investigations found that the hatchback, driven by a 20-year-old foreign national, with the student, identified as Puteri Nursyakirah Suzaimi, 19, as passenger, was believed to have lost control while travelling from Kuala Lumpur towards Raub before skidding into a roadside drain.

"Puteri Nursyakirah was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries, while the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bentong Hospital for treatment," he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 19).

Zaiham said both victims were students of an institution of higher learning.

He added that a luxury van and a pickup travelling in the same direction were also believed to have lost control. The luxury van reportedly skidded and collided with the hatchback, while the pickup veered into a concrete drain about 30m from the scene.

"The driver and three passengers of the luxury van, including a one-year-old baby girl, suffered only minor injuries, while the driver and four passengers of the pickup, aged three to 23, also sustained minor injuries," he added.

Zaiham said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation. – Bernama
