KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must pursue its struggle with greater resolve and be ready to go solo in the upcoming state elections, says Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi.

The Puteri Umno chief said the party's main struggle should be focused on its own survival.

"Puteri views this struggle as one that cannot be passive.

"We can be friends with anyone, we can cooperate with anyone, but Umno must never fade, disappear, or be sidelined.

"Puteri believes that although today we are in government, when it comes to state elections, Umno must be ready to stand on its own," she said in her closing speech at the Umno general assembly here on Saturday (Jan 17).

She cited the Sabah state election as a good and clear model for the party, one that is principled and based on its own strength, she said.

She also reiterated that Umno must initiate the political reconciliation among the Malays.

"Puteri Umno welcomes this and believes the country needs a sincere and mature reunification process.

"In this process, we understand that some may feel reluctant to agree.

For Puteri, this is not something we accept lightly either.

Even our former chief is no longer in this hall, but we choose to be magnanimous.

"We open the door to welcome back those who wish to return and be together again," she said.

She said Umno should look into several options in terms of cooperation to consider including working together at the federal level but may find different approaches at the state level.

She also urged the party to follow through with all the narrative and it must be aligned with its implementation.

"Our narrative must not contradict actions on the ground. If we promote a narrative of unity and reconciliation, then our political approach must reflect that spirit, not the opposite," she said.

For Puteri Umno, she said unity among the Malays is a journey to strengthen Umno.

"It may be a new path, and it requires openness and generosity of heart," she said.
