Ismail Sabri has pacemaker implanted at IJN, says lawyer

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob successfully underwent a leadless pacemaker implantation procedure at the National Heart Institute (IJN) for an abnormal heart rhythm on Friday (Aug 7) afternoon.

According to his lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, the former prime minister was advised to rest following the procedure.

"The procedure went smoothly and was successful. Datuk Seri is stable but remains in the CCU for close monitoring.

"Visitation will therefore be limited to close family members to support his recovery and ensure his privacy. IJN respectfully requests members of the media and the public to respect the privacy of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri and his family during this period. Further updates, where appropriate, will be issued through authorised channels," said Amer.

Earlier on Friday, Ismail Sabri was scheduled to be charged in the Sessions Court but was admitted at IJN.

The Sessions Court then postponed proceedings to Aug 27.

Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin fixed the date for the reading of the charges and recording of Ismail Sabri's plea, which will take place at 9am on that day.

“Considering the accused's health condition, and upon request by the defence counsel which has been agreed on by the prosecution, the court allows for this proceeding involving the reading of charges and recording of plea to be carried out at 9am on Aug 27,” she said on Friday.
