Melaka CM to decide on Akmal’s exco post after receiving official quit letter


KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh (pic) says he will wait for an official resignation letter from Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh before deciding on the latter’s position in the Melaka state government.

“I will review the matter comprehensively and how it is resolved. However, I respect Muhamad Akmal’s decision as he embodies the Umno Youth wing’s spirit,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Umno annual general assembly here on Thursday (Jan 15).

Earlier today, Dr Muhamad Akmal who is Umno Youth chief, said he has resigned from his post as a Melaka executive council member.

When speaking at the Umno Youth Assembly, Dr Akmal said that his resignation would take effect by next week.

He currently holds the Melaka exco post for the rural development, agriculture and food security committee.

“I would like to apologise but with this (resignation) it is to show that I bring forward the voice of the party grassroots.

“I will resign from the post as the Melaka exco but I will not leave Umno Youth,” he told the delegates at the World Trade Centre here.
