KJ’s attendance at Umno Youth AGM has my blessings, says Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he gave his personal blessings for Khairy Jamaluddin to attend the Umno Youth convention.

“It was on the invitation of the Umno Youth wing, and I gave my blessings for it,” he told reporters when met on the sidelines of the Umno annual general assembly here on Thursday (Jan 15).

When asked about the presence of former leaders also present here, Ahmad Zahid responded with “the door is still open”.

Khairy was among the former Umno Youth chiefs who attended the wing’s assembly on Thursday.

KJ, as he is fondly known, was sacked from the party in 2023 for violating party discipline.

Separately, Ahmad Zahid said Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s resignation from his exco post in the Melaka state government was his personal decision.

Earlier on Thursday, Dr Muhamad Akmal announced his resignation at the Umno Youth Assembly, saying it would take effect next week.

He currently serves as the Melaka executive councillor for the Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee.

“I would like to apologise, but with this (resignation), it is to show that I bring forward the voice of the party's grassroots.

“I will resign from the post as the Melaka exc,o but I will not leave Umno Youth,” he told the delegates at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here.
