Come in person to apologise, Akmal tells portal reps over social media post blunder

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth has demanded that Malaysiakini personally meet with its party members following a blunder in the portal’s social media post.

Its chief, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, said that Malaysiakini representatives should meet him during the Umno general assembly at the World Trade Centre (WTC).

He was referring to an Instagram post on the Umno general assembly that has since been deleted by the portal.

Akmal said Umno Youth will give the portal 24 hours to reply.

“We demand that you come in person to apologise. And if you do not come, Umno Youth will come to you,” he said during the Umno Youth opening speech here on Thursday (Jan 15).

It was also reported on the portal today, that Malaysiakini editors will be meeting with Umno leaders on the matter.

Yesterday (Jan 14), Malaysiakini issued an apology over the social media blunder.

The news portal, which expressed its deepest regret, said that the error featured unrelated news and images.

It added that as soon as the error was noticed, it was immediately deleted and a correction was made.

"We would like to stress that the incident was unintentional and without any malicious intent whatsoever,” the portal said.
