Time for Umno to go digital, says Tok Mat

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must put effort into digitalising the party on a larger scale, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The deputy president said the expansion of the party to the digital landscape could improve the “creative disruption” faced by Umno in recent years.

“Umno needs to be a party that can exist in the virtual world, just like the banking and higher education sectors have moved on to the virtual world.

“In fact, even all public sectors have been digitalised. If banks and businesses can move to the digital era, why cannot our structures turn digital? Umno-Digital or e-Umno is not something that is impossible and unattainable, ”he said during his opening speech for the simultaneous launch of Umno's three wings, Youth, Wanita and Puteri for the 2025 Umno General Assembly at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here, on Wednesday (Jan 14).

Mohamad also urged Puteri Umno delegates to become the party’s machinery for “virtual wars.”

“Sabah has taught us one thing: that we lost the TikTok battle. Puteri, your battlefield is on your phone screens. I want the Puteri delegates to become the data intelligence unit.

“Change the perception of young people. Go to colleges, go into the digital space. Raise the issue of mental health, the issue of decent wages,” he stressed.

Earlier, Umno information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said had called for the formation of a new, digital wing.

She said that Umno needs to have an effective way to address the rising use of social media platforms, not just during the election and campaigning season.
