Married couple found murdered in Sarawak's Sri Aman district

KUCHING: A husband and wife have been found dead with severe injuries in their home at Sri Aman, 192km from here, early Wednesday (Jan 14) morning.

Sarawak police commissioner Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the Sri Aman police headquarters received information at 6.55am about the discovery of the couple inside the house at Taman Mutiara.

He said a police team was immediately dispatched, along with medical officers from Hospital Sri Aman.

"Initial investigations confirmed that the victims, a 45-year-old man and his wife, aged 44, had died at the scene," he said in a statement.

Comm Zainal said police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"The motive and cause of the incident are still under investigation, with ongoing efforts to collect evidence and witness statements," he said.

He urged anyone with information on the case to contact investigating officer Asst Supt Kalang at 019-331 7785, the Sri Aman police district control centre, or the nearest police station.

"Public cooperation is crucial to assist investigations and ensure the security of the community," he added.

According to multiple Facebook posts on the incident, the victims were a primary school headmaster and his wife, who was a nurse.

The Sarawak Education Department expressed condolences to the family of the headmaster, Andy Roy Junran, following his death.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the department said it had lost a school leader who was dedicated in carrying out his duties and improving the standard of education.
