Bersatu accepts Muhyiddin's wish to step down, PAS ready to lead PN in GE16

SHAH ALAM: PAS is ready to lead Perikatan Nasional following the decision of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) to accept the wish of its President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to step down as chairman of the coalition.

PAS Information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the move was important to chart a new direction for PN ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16), reported Sinar Harian.

“This is a good decision from the Bersatu MPT meeting, which openly accepted Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s wish to step down as Perikatan chairman.

“God willing, PN will move forward. Give PAS the opportunity to lead PN in the 16th General Election. We will rise and advance towards Putrajaya,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Jan 13).

Previously, Bersatu was reported to have held a closed-door meeting with the party’s MPT on Monday night.

Muhyiddin said that among the matters discussed at the meeting was his resignation as Perikatan chairman.

According to him, the reasons for the decision were explained in detail to the members involved.
