AirBorneo to use MY flight code from Jan 14

KUCHING: AirBorneo flights will use the MY flight code from Wednesday (Jan 14), following the airline's planned transition to its own departure control system (DCS).

Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin announced the new flight code after an operational briefing by AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin on Tuesday (Jan 13).

AirBorneo flights previously operated under the MH flight code (MH3000 series).

During the briefing, AirBorneo's management outlined preparations for the DCS migration from the former MASwings system, including coordinating with airport operators and relevant stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted flight operations.

Lee welcomed the assurance that the system cutover scheduled for Wednesday would be carried out seamlessly, with no disruption to flight schedules, bookings, or passenger services.

"I have been briefed that all systems will remain fully operational throughout the transition and that passengers travelling during this period will not experience any changes to their itineraries," he said in a statement.

He added that the DCS cutover will be implemented simultaneously across all 21 airports in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan served by AirBorneo, where airport check-in counters will continue to operate as usual.

Flight information displays and signage will be updated to show the AirBorneo branding and MY flight numbers.

Lee also welcomed Megat Ardian in his role as AirBorneo CEO and expressed confidence in the airline's leadership as it moves into its next operational phase.

"The ministry looks forward to working closely with AirBorneo’s management to ensure operational stability, service reliability and a smooth passenger experience, while strengthening regional connectivity," he said.

The Sarawak-owned AirBorneo launched its inaugural flights on Jan 2 after completing its acquisition of MASwings Sdn Bhd on New Year's Day.

This followed the signing of a sale and purchase agreement between MASwings' parent company, Malaysia Aviation Group, and the Sarawak government on Feb 12 last year.
