Motorcycle stunts land 10 people in handcuffs

SHAH ALAM: A traffic operation targeting mat rempit led to the arrest of 10 people.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan said that the operation was conducted near Persiaran Elmina early Sunday (Jan 11) morning.

"Based on intelligence and surveillance at the targeted locations, the police successfully detected a group of motorcyclists performing extreme stunts such as racing against one another, riding against the flow of traffic, as well as executing 'zig-zag' and 'superman' stunts.

"These reckless actions not only endangered their own lives but also posed a serious threat to the safety of other road users," he said in statement on Sunday.

He said that seven men and three women aged 17 to 26, including students were nabbed.

"All have been brought to the Sungai Buloh traffic police station for further action," he said.

He also urged parents to always monitor their children's movements to prevent them from participating in such activities.

At the same time, the police also seized 10 motorcycles. A further five people were detained by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) after they tested positive for drugs, including for methaphatemines.
