Teen rider killed, brother injured in accident with lorry in Johor

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 16-year-old motorcyclist has died while his brother was injured in an accident with a lorry on the Second Link expressway.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the teenage rider and his 21-year-old brother were travelling at KM10.2 of the expressway when they met with the accident at around 11.50pm on Friday (Jan 9).

He said the brothers were heading towards Gelang Patah from Kota Tinggi on the three-lane dual carriageway.

“The teen, who was riding on the right lane, was said to have suddenly switched to the left lane as he wanted to exit the expressway.

“A lorry, which was travelling in the middle lane, could not brake in time, and crashed into the motorcycle,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 10).

As a result, the teenager died from severe head and arm injuries, while his brother sustained leg injuries. The lorry driver was unhurt.

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

ACP Kumarasan urged witnesses or those with information about the accident to get in touch with the police by contacting the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters' traffic unit at 07-5101 322.
