HELSINKI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two teenagers were seriously wounded in a sword attack at a school in central Sweden on Friday, while at least one other person was injured, local authorities and media reported.
The two teenagers were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, according to Region Vastmanland, the regional health authority.
A person armed with a sword entered Brinellskolan, an upper secondary school in Fagersta, a municipality in central Sweden, and injured several people, according to the municipality. Police and rescue services were alerted to the incident at 2:06 p.m. local time.
Swedish police said a male suspect had been detained.
According to Swedish Television (SVT), the suspect is an 18-year-old former student of Brinellskolan. He had previously been convicted of assaulting another student and had received compulsory care under Swedish legislation governing the care of young people.
Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported that a TikTok account posted an image showing a sword in a restroom at the school shortly before the attack. Police were investigating whether the account was linked to the incident.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the incident as serious, saying authorities did not yet know what was behind the attack and police were working intensively on the case.
