IPOH: Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ) recorded RM30.7mil in fines under the 50 per cent discount scheme that ended on Dec 30 last year.
Perak JPJ director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan said the total rose from RM25.8mil collected in 2024.
"Perak JPJ also collected an estimated RM239mil last year, up from around RM217mil in the previous year,” he told reporters after inspecting Operasi Pengarah 2026 on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here on Thursday (Dec 8).
Yusoff said 226 offence notices were issued on Thursday for violations, including unlicensed driving and expired vehicle licences and insurance.
He said the operation aimed to monitor and ensure public compliance with traffic regulations, particularly among motorcyclists, who are among the most vulnerable road users.
Meanwhile, Yusoff said JPJ was still using an advocacy approach to tackle the use of helmets not approved by the Malaysian Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (Sirim).
He said the Transport Ministry has mandated that all road vehicle equipment comply with Sirim specifications.- Bernama
