PUTRAJAYA: Small-scale projects under the 13th Malaysian Plan (13MP) will be fast-tracked by the Economy Ministry, says its minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
“When the people see the government fixing real problems on the field, such as broken bridges, potholes and dilapidated quarters, schools and clinics, this will increase public confidence and reduce complaints,” he said.
Akmal was speaking during his New Year address at the Economy Ministry on Thursday (Jan 8).
“We must ensure that all small-scale projects are completed, running smoothly and truly felt by the people on the ground,” added Akmal.
Akmal stated that the government, through collaboration among the Economy Ministry, Finance Ministry, and Works Ministry, aims to ensure that these projects are executed and completed on schedule while meeting quality standards.
Meanwhile, Akmal announced that the Economy Ministry would hold a special retreat at the end of January to detail indicators, targets and project execution plans, including small projects.
“We want every initiative to have an owner, a timeline and clear responsibilities,” he added.
Akmal also said the Forum Ekonomi Malaysia (FEM) 2026, with the theme Accelerating Growth, Advancing Malaysia, was scheduled to take place on Feb 5 and would be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar.
According to Akmal, the FEM 2026 would focus on strategic discussions to identify methods to implement socioeconomic development projects under 13MP, as well as issues hindering inclusive and sustainable growth.
Akmal also said FEM 2026 aims to create a platform where lawmakers, industry players, investors, and local and international academicians can share their experiences and best practices to build a coherent narrative on economic development.
“We have also invited subject matter experts from the industry and leaders who will be beneficial to our discussion here,” added Akmal.
