HUNDREDS of competitors from four northern states, including Tamil primary school teams, took part in the Kejohanan Kabaddi Pesta Pulau Pinang 2025, Makkal Osai reported.

The Kabaddi competition was part of the Penang Island Festival held at the Sg Nibong Festival Ground and is supported by the Kabaddi Association of Malaysia (KAM), the state sports council and the state government.

The event saw male and female participants from Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak taking part in multiple categories.

The Perlis contingent took home the gold medal in both the men’s and women’s Under 21 categories.

Meanwhile the Under-12 category saw participation from many Tamil schools, including eight schools from the host state.

> A state in India has introduced a mandatory 10-minute newspaper reading time for all government-run schools in the state, Makkal Osai reported.

According to a new directive from the Rajasthan state government, a student must read out the day’s newspaper during the school’s morning assembly.

The student selected to read the newspaper must arrive 30 minutes before the assembly begins and identify five new words and their meaning to teach their schoolmates during the reading.

The daily reading must cover topics such as main stories, sports, and national and international news according to a circular issued by the state’s primary and secondary education secretary.

The above articles are compiled from the vernacular newspapers (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil dailies). As such, stories are grouped according to the respective language/medium. Where a paragraph begins with a >, it denotes a separate news item.
