MACC obtains remand order for Kedah varsity director over graft allegations

PETALING JAYA: The Kedah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a five-day remand order until Jan 10 for the director of a public higher learning institute in Kedah.

Sources said the female suspect, in her 50s, allegedly abused her position as chairman of a cooperative by appointing a company owned by her child to supply batik fabric worth about RM16,000.

"The suspect is believed to have committed the act in August 2024 for supplying batik fabric to make uniforms for the institute's lecturers and staff," said the source.

The remand order was issued by the Sungai Petani Magistrate's Court by Magistrate Muhammad Syaiful Akmal Mohamad Razi following an application by Kedah MACC on Tuesday (Jan 6) morning.

The suspect was arrested at 1 pm on Monday (Jan 5) after giving her statement at the MACC office in Sungai Petani.
