Indonesian religious teacher jailed eight years, whipping for sexual assault


KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian religious teacher was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment and six strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here on Monday (Jan 5) after pleading guilty to two charges of committing physical sexual assault against a male student last year.

Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar ordered Kumpul, 40, to serve four years' imprisonment and three strokes of the cane for the first charge, and four years' imprisonment and three strokes of the cane for the second charge, with the sentences to run consecutively from the date of his arrest on Dec 25, 2025.
