Govt to present national economic direction for 2026 at M'sia Economic Forum, says minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will present the focus and direction of the national economy for 2026 at the upcoming Malaysia Economic Forum, says Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

The Economy Minister said preparations for the forum will take place in early February.

"This year, we will begin to feel the effects of the United States' tariff war, which has caused economic uncertainty, as well as geopolitical tensions that will impact global economic growth.

"Setting priorities to determine the economic direction for the first few weeks of 2026 is very important. I will take the time to focus on the following matters," he said in a Facebook post Monday (Jan 5).

Akmal said that the Economy Ministry has prepared 25 briefings, followed by detailed discussions on policy and the implementation of the country's direction.

He added that the government will also consult various stakeholders and parties with strategic interests in the nation. - Bernama
