KUALA LUMPUR: Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) collected approximately 3.2 tonnes of waste from three major areas in Kuala Lumpur during the 2026 New Year’s Eve celebrations, 11% less than the 3.6 tonnes collected in 2025.

Its chief executive officer, Shariman Yusuf Mohamed Zain said the cleanup operation targeted high-traffic public areas, including Bukit Bintang, Dataran Merdeka and the vicinity of Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC) from 10pm on New Year’s Eve till 8am on Thursday (Jan 1).

”KLCC recorded the highest amount of waste at 1.4 tonnes, followed by Bukit Bintang (one tonne) and Dataran Merdeka (0.8 tonnes),” he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that 152 personnel, including management staff, pre-cleaning teams, drivers and general crews, were involved in the clean-up operation.

A total of 36,660-litre and 25,240-litre mobile garbage bins were strategically placed to facilitate proper waste disposal, three compactor trucks were deployed for efficient waste collection, and water jets were used to wash pavements, particularly in high-footfall areas, he said.

Shariman Yusuf also noted that this year’s waste collection was relatively manageable, especially at Bukit Bintang.

He stressed that Alam Flora’s ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability and urban cleanliness aligns with the company’s mission to enhance community well-being and contribute to a greener future. — Bernama
