Man burnt after night fire guts house, car and bikes


KOTA KINABALU: A man suffered burns on his shoulder after his house was destroyed in a late night fire at Sungai Batu Lunguyan in Sabah’s interior Sook district on Sunday.

The 46-year-old victim was taken by members of the public to the Tulid clinic in Sook for treatment.

Sook Fire and Rescue Station chief Faisal Ahmad said the fire involved a semi-permanent house that was completely destroyed, while a car and two motorcycles were also destroyed.

He said they received a distress call at 8.54pm and a team sped to the area about 31km away by 9.30pm.

“The fire was brought under control at 9.45pm,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Faisal said Sabah Electricity and police also assisted in the fire fighting operation that ended shortly before midnight.

The cause of the fire and the total losses are still under investigation, he added.
