GEORGE TOWN: An elderly man was killed after his Toyota Vios veered off the road at Desa Mawar, Farlim, here on Monday (Dec 29).
Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) John Sagun Francis said they received an emergency call at 9.37am and arrived to find the car off the road with the victim badly injured.
The victim, Lim Soon Teik, 67, sustained severe facial injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The victim received initial treatment from the medical team at the scene, but later succumbed to his injuries.
"The Fire and Rescue team extricated the body, and it was sent to Penang Hospital,” he said in a statement.
The operation concluded at 11.05am.
In a separate incident, a man died after falling into a three-metre-deep drain on Jalan Sungai Daun, Nibong Tebal, near here on Sunday (Dec 28) night.
The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted at 11.12pm, but the victim, R. Mahendran, 61, had already been pulled from the drain by the public. His body was later handed over to the authorities for a post-mortem. – Bernama
