PAS puts forward two candidates to replace Perlis MB

PETALING JAYA: PAS has put forward two candidates for Perlis Mentri Besar to replace Mohd Shukri Ramli, who announced his voluntary resignation due to health reasons.

According to Sinar Harian, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party still controls the Perlis state legislative assembly even though three of its elected representatives were sacked.

"We still have six seats and Bersatu only has five seats. We are eligible to present a candidate for Mentri Besar," he said during a press conference after delivering a lecture at the Rusila Mosque on Friday (Dec 26).

Shukri's resignation followed the submission of eight statutory declarations (SDs) signed by state assemblymen – three from PAS and five from Bersatu – retracting their support for him.

The three PAS assemblymen – Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji) – were later sacked from the party.

Asked about his trust in Bersatu, Abdul Hadi explained that punishment cannot be carried out in its entirety.

"However, it is hoped that Bersatu will take action against their five assemblymen.

"At the same time, we are ready to face the Perlis by-election (by-election)," he said.
