Police nab man, contraband ciggies worth RM320,000 seized


KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a man suspected of being involved in the distribution of contraband cigarettes during Op Taring Alpha 1 in Klang, Selangor, on Wednesday.

The joint operation was carried out by the General Operations Force (PGA) Battalion 4 Semenyih intelligence branch and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Klang Selatan district police headquarters.

Battalion 4 Commander Supt Amanjit Singh said during the 2.30 pm raid, the team seized 750 cartons of white cigarettes believed to be untaxed, along with a Nissan Almera suspected of being used for distribution.

"The total value of the items seized in the operation is estimated at RM320,000. The 60-year-old man and all seized items were taken to the Klang Selatan IPD for further investigation under the Customs Act 1967,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 25).

He also urged the public to cooperate and report any illegal activities to the police. - Bernama
