PETALING JAYA: There was no party meeting held to discuss the withdrawal of support for Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, says state Bersatu Youth chief Abdul Latif Abu Hasan.
“There were never any orders from either the national or state Bersatu leaders to retract support for Mohd Shukri as the MB. This matter was also never discussed in any of the Bersatu meetings. On top of that, the statutory declarations (SD) signed also have some discrepancies.
“State assemblyman and state exco Izizam Ibrahim of Titi Tinggi clarified to us that he did not know about the SDs as he was in Mecca.
“There are definitely hidden hands trying to shake up the Perlis Perikatan National government but we have yet to find out who is behind all this,” said Abdul Latif.
Izizam, one of the three names allegedly in the running for the Mentri Besar post, also confirmed that he was in Mecca when the signing of the SDs allegedly took place.
In a Facebook post written yesterday (Dec 23), Izizam said that he has been in Mecca since Dec 15.
He also wished Mohd Shukri a speedy recovery.
The Perlis state government is currently in limbo after five Bersatu state assemblymen allegedly signed SDs to retract their support for Mohd Shukri, who is from PAS.
It was reported today that three names including Izizam's, have been submitted to the Raja Perlis for consideration for the MB post.
Mohd Shukri, who was receiving treatment at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, has since been discharged.
On Dec 23, eight Perlis state assemblymen from the state government itself including five from Bersatu had allegedly submitted a statutory declaration (SD) to the Raja of Perlis last week, informing the Ruler that they had withdrawn their support for the Mentri Besar.
The Bersatu assemblymen included Izizam, Abu Bakar Hamzah (Kuala Perlis), Megat Hashirat Hassan (Pauh), Wan Zikri Afthar Ishak (Tambun Tulang) and Marzita Mansor (Sena).
Three others who also submitted the SDs retracting support from Mohd Shukri who is also from PAS were Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).
PKR’s Gan Ay Ling is the sole opposition member, who is said to have also submitted an SD.
PAS will be holding an urgent supreme council meeting on the matter in Perlis later today.
