Mersing man missing, feared drowned after boat capsizes on fishing trip


MERSING: A man is missing and feared drowned after the boat he was on capsized while fishing here Monday (Dec 22).

Mersing Fire and Rescue Department station chief Abdul Muiz Mukhtar said the 36-year-old man was believed to have been fishing with two relatives at Sungai Lenggor when the boat capsized on Monday.

“Three victims were involved in the incident, with two managing to save themselves while one is still missing.

“We have launched search and rescue operations and are conducting monitoring activities in the area to locate the missing victim and ensure overall safety,” he said in a statement here.

He said the two men, aged 36 and 29 years old, are in a safe condition, while rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the missing man.

“The location of the incident is estimated to be about 7km from the jetty at the Felda Nitar 2 water treatment plant,” he added.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani confirmed that police have received a report on the incident.
