Military vets eager to join border agency

MELAKA: Interview sessions for the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) staff intake have begun, attracting strong interest from Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veterans.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said most applicants for the AKPS vacancies are veterans from special units, including the Special Service Group, the Naval Special Forces, the Air Force Special Forces and airborne units.

“We welcome their applications but the recruitment process, interviews and final selection for some 200 vacancies are fully managed by AKPS.

“This is because the Defence Ministry, through the Veterans Affairs Department, only plays a coordinating role in preparing the list of eligible veterans to attend the interview sessions,” he told reporters after attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an additional building for the Special Education Integration Programme here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Adly said updates on recruitment, including the number of successful candidates, will be provided periodically with the final list expected in January.

Last month, AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the agency will begin recruiting 220 ATM veterans in stages as part of an initiative under Budget 2026.
