KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has confirmed investigations into activist Fahmi Reza.

In a statement Friday (Dec 19), Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said that the investigations were regarding posts he had made against the Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

“As of now, the police have received a total of 284 police reports nationwide in relation to the same issue,” he said.

He added that a statement recording session was conducted on Friday, where the police seized a handphone belonging to the activist.

The statement did not state that any arrests had been made.

“The police stress that firm action without compromise will be taken against any individual who insults the Royal Institution in accordance with existing legal provisions.

“The public is also advised to always exercise prudence and responsibility when making any statements or sharing content in public spaces or on social media,” he said.

Previously, it was reported that dozens of police reports had been lodged against him for allegedly insulting Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, with reports also lodged by more than 20 state assemblymen.

Fahmi, in an X post, confirmed that he had been released.

He added that he was released on police bail.
