KUALA LUMPUR: The new leadership of the Youth and Sports Ministry should ensure that youth development agenda remains relevant, grounded in the real challenges faced by young people and driven by policies based on data and grassroots voices.
The Malaysian Youth Council (MYC) president Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid (pic) said there is a need to strengthen the role of youth organisations as strategic partners of the government.
“There must be focus on youth economic agenda, decent employment and inclusive development that encompasses all segments of the youth population.
“The appointments come at a time when the nation’s youth are facing major challenges, including the rising cost of living, graduate employability, changes in the world of work and mental well-being issues,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.
Mohd Izzat said the council welcomed the appointment of Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari and Mordi Bimol as the new minister and deputy, respectively.
At the same time, he expressed MYC’s appreciation and gratitude to former minister Hannah Yeoh and her deputy Adam Adli Abd Halim for their contributions and commitment during their tenure at the ministry.
He also reaffirmed MYC’s commitment to serve as a critical yet constructive partner to the ministry in ensuring that the interests of youth continue to be safeguarded.
