DVS investigating death of animals found in abandoned vet clinic

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Veterinary Services Department (DVS) has launched an investigation into the reported death of neglected animals at an abandoned veterinary clinic in Damansara Damai.

The department confirmed that it had received an official complaint about the incident on Wednesday (Dec 17).

This followed numerous viral video clips showing dead animals in cages.

Selangor DVS said that a team of its Animal Welfare Officers were dispatched to the clinic on the same day the complaint was received, and an inspection of the premises found one dead dog and a dead cat trapped in separate cages.

“Based on an initial examination of the carcasses, they were estimated to have been dead for about one to two weeks.

“The officers have since taken possession of both animal carcasses and the two cages for further examination and investigation,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.

It added that an investigation paper has been opened by the department, with the case being investigated under subsection 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.

The department also urged any witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.

“DVS Selangor also wishes to stress that a thorough and transparent investigation will be conducted without any compromise or favouritism,” it said.
