Sabah Environment Minister looks forward to working with new Federal Natural Resources Minister

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin looks forward to working with the newly-appointed Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Minister, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.

In congratulating Arthur for his appointment as full minister on Tuesday (Dec 16) evening, Jafry said this appointment was timely for the country’s current needs, especially in managing natural resources and ensuring sustainable environmental agenda.

“We welcome cooperation with the ministry, specifically in aspects of biodiversity conservation, management of protected areas, climate change and sustainable development of tourism,” he said in a statement.

He said the close synergy between both state and federal ministries was vital to ensure that tourism development could go with responsibility and sustainability for the benefit of the state and country.

Arthur, who is Sook assemblyman and Pensiangan MP, is one of the two Sabah leaders who were made full ministers in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s new list of Cabinet members.

He was previously Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister.

Other than him, Sepanggar MP Datuk Mustapha Sakmud was made Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs).

He was the former Deputy Higher Education Minister.

Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin was appointed Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister while Tawau MP Loh Su Fui was named the Deputy Federal Territories Minister.

Batu Sapi MP Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan is the new Deputy Human Resources Minister while Kimanis MP Datuk Mohamad Alamin is Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister.
